Art Gallery reception for Margarita Avetian

Organization or Program title:
Art Gallery reception for Margarita Avetian
Room:
Raya Stern Trustees Room
Program Description:
Artist's statement: "I'm 87 years old, a mother of six beautiful children and seven grandchildren. My urge to create ART started two years ago as an emotional outlet after the war in my Motherland, Armenia, broke out in 2020 and took the lives of more than 6.000 young adults and left many more disabled. I have no formal training in art. My kids encouraged me to paint, thinking that may ease my inner turmoil. To my surprise, it has helped me partially healing the wounds of my world. I mainly paint flowers, because I've always admired the beauty of each species and they represent the fragility of life to me. I cover the background with one color to focus more on the intricate shapes and colors of flowers and leaves. I get lost in the creative process and forget about the harsh reality we live in. When I paint, I feel inner peace and believe that one day "beauty will and should save the world!" I'm honoring those who bravely gave their lives to protect their families and homeland and their grieving families. Art has healing power. I'll be happy if my paintings resonate the same feelings in the viewers as mine while I'm creating them - happiness, peace and love towards each other and everything around us!" — Margarita Avetian, 2022
