Introduction to Book Binding: Secret Belgian Binding

Secret Belgian Binding is a method of bookbinding that uses primary and a secondary sewing, resulting in a distinct thread pattern on the cover and spine of the finished book allowing the covers to fold back on themselves. The primary sewing is used to weave the covers together. The secondary sewing is used to bind signatures (sets of pages) to the covers. In this workshop you will learn the core skills of this bookbinding method and create a sturdy, attractive journal or sketchbook for personal use. These basic techniques will also allow you to make many variations of this binding type in the future.

All materials and tools are provided.

This workshop is for adults and older children ages 12+. Minors 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult or have Hatch's waiver form signed by their parent/guardian.
