Artist statement: "The act of painting is a kind of disappearance for me, a journey through a world I can only access by painting. As the painting becomes itself, it teaches me about myself. Sometimes it shows me what I'm thinking in images I see only after I've painted them. Sometimes I take those images out of the painting. Sometimes I leave them in or enhance them so their voice in the painting gets louder. With each piece, I watch, wait and work until nothing in the painting bothers me and I can walk away." — Daniel Jacobs
